The octopus (Octopus vulgaris) is a benthic and coastal species that can be found up to 200 m deep, on rocky and sandy seabeds.
These octopus weigh around 2 kg (4,4lb).
Usually, only the arms are cooked, and they are enough for a 3 or 4-people meal. In addition, the head can also be cooked, cutting it into strips, which is an extra meal. When the octopus is boiled, it loses much water and reduces weight.
We show you how to cook it “A Feira” here (in Catalan).
They are solitary and territorial animals and they migrate seasonally. They reproduce between March and October.
They are captured mainly through artisanal ways, but also with fishing trawlers. When we fish them we respect the species and its reproductive periods.
