Description

The sardine (Sardina pilchardus) is the most famous Mediterranean oily fish. It’s tasty and flavourful, wanted by many and rejected by few. It also lives in other seas and oceans like the Cantabrian or the Atlantic.

500 g of sardines are perfect for two adults if you cook them as a main dish. It can be cooked in many ways: pickled, grilled, barbecued or oiled.

About the sardine

The sardine is a pelagic fish, which means it lives far away from the coast, but that doesn’t reduce its consumption!

It’s a fish with lots of nutrients and many other virtues: rich in high-quality  proteins and unsaturated fat, those that our organism needs. It’s also a great source of essential vitamins and minerals. However, it doesn’t contain other less-desired minerals like mercury.

How to cook it

There are many ways to cook this fish. Curated with salt to make herring; marinated, in oil or pickled; and barbecued, grilled or as espeto in sardinades.
