Our coast’s striped prawn (Penaeus kerathurus) has firm, white, compact and delicious meat.
500 g of striped prawns are perfect for two people. For a main dish, 250 g per person. For a dish with other ingredients, like rice dishes, we recommend 80-100 g per person.
Striped prawns’ bodies are brown, while their tales have blue and bright tones that distinguish them from other species of prawns from different parts of the world.
The striped prawn lives buried in the sand and comes out at night. It lives near the surface, in river mouths and in seabeds made of mud or sand.
There are small gillnetting boats that fish these prawns on our coast. Many high-quality striped prawns are fished in La Ràpita, a fishing port with many gillnetting boats.
We can find them in many recipes, either easy or elaborate ones. They are usually grilled or used in rice, carpaccios or in mar i munanyes.
